Janet Evanovich is an American author of romance novels. She has also written under the pen names Jill Blake and Steffanie Plum. Evanovich’s debut novel, Hero at Large, was published in 1987. She has since written over two dozen novels, including the #1 New York Times bestsellers Hot Six and Lean Mean Thirteen. Evanovich is a recipient of the Romance Writers of America’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

Evanovich began her career writing short contemporary romance novels for Harlequin in the early 1980s. In 1987, she wrote her first novel, Hero at Large, which was published by Simon & Schuster. The book was optioned for a film, and Evanovich served as an executive producer on the resulting 1988 movie starring John Ritter.

In 1994, Evanovich switched publishers, moving to St. Martin’s Press. She wrote four more contemporary romance novels before writing her first Stephanie Plum novel, One for the Money, in 1994. The Stephanie Plum series has been Evanovich’s most successful, with each successive book reaching higher on the bestseller lists. As of 2019, the series includes twenty-four novels and one novella, and has been translated into multiple languages.
