Louis Gossett Jr. is an accomplished actor who has starred in many films and television shows. He is perhaps best known for his role as Fiddler in the television series “Roots.” Gossett Jr. was born in Brooklyn, New York, and began his acting career in the late 1950s. He has since appeared in such films as ” Enemy Mine,” “Jaws 3-D,” and “Iron Eagle.” In addition to his work in film, Gossett Jr. has also been active in the theater, appearing in productions on Broadway and off-Broadway. He won a Tony Award for his role in the play “A Soldier’s Story.” Gossett Jr. has also been active in politics and social activism, and is a member of the NAACP.

In 1841, Solomon Northup, a free black man from upstate New York, was abducted and sold into slavery. He spent the next twelve years working on plantations in Louisiana. During that time, he was subjected to brutal treatment and witnessed firsthand the inhumanity of the slave system. In 1853, Northup was finally able to regain his freedom and return to his family. His story, which was published as a book, helped to raise awareness of the horrors of slavery and played a role in the abolitionist movement.
