The Total Recall is a 1990 American science fiction action film directed by Paul Verhoeven, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Rachel Ticotin, Sharon Stone, Michael Ironside, and Ronny Cox. The film is based on the Philip K. Dick short story “We Can Remember It for You Wholesale”, which was first published in The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction in 1966 and adapted into the film by Ronald Shusett and Dan O’Bannon.

In the film, Schwarzenegger plays Douglas Quaid, a construction worker who begins to believe he is a secret agent after visits to a memory implant center called Rekall. As he tries to uncover the truth about his past, he is hunted by government agents led by Richter (Ironside), a ruthless operative with orders to kill him.

The film was a critical and commercial success, grossing over $261 million worldwide. It received generally positive reviews from critics and was nominated for three Academy Awards, winning Best Visual Effects. A sequel, Total Recall 2070, aired as a television series in 1999.
