In the story, Kaladin is a young man who has been sold into slavery and is forced to work as a bridgeman, carrying supplies across a dangerous chasm. He is constantly exposed to danger and is constantly beaten. One day, Kaladin has had enough and decides to fight back. He rallies the other slaves and leads them in a revolt. They are successful in taking over the bridge and Kaladin is able to escape. He eventually joins up with a group of fighters known as the Stormblessed. They are a group of people who have been touched by the storms and have special powers. They are fighting against the forces of the Voidbringers, who are trying to destroy the world. The Stormblessed are able to defeat the Voidbringers and Kaladin is able to find his way back to his home.
