John Ronald Reuel Tolkien was an English writer, poet, philologist, and university professor who is best known as the author of the classic high-fantasy works The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, and The Silmarillion.
Tolkien was born in Bloemfontein in the Orange Free State (now Free State Province in South Africa) to English parents. At the age of three, he and his brother Hilary were brought back to England by their mother after their father, Arthur Tolkien, died of rheumatic fever.
Tolkien’s work has been cited as having had a profound effect on popular culture, especially in the fantasy genre. Tolkien created one of the first modern fantasy worlds, Middle-earth, and many of the associated legends and stories. His books have sold over 150 million copies and have been translated into over 50 languages.
The series of work that will be written is a collection of essays exploring the theme of love. Each essay will explore a different aspect of love, from its highs to its lows, and everything in between. This series will be a chance to really dig into what love means to me, and to hopefully connect with others who have also experienced love in all its forms.
