Francis Fukuyama is an American political economist and author. He is best known for his book The End of History and the Last Man, in which he argued that the end of the Cold War and the fall of communism marked the end of mankind’s ideological evolution and the beginning of a post-ideological world. He has since published a number of other books, including The Origins of Political Order and Political Order and Political Decay.
Fukuyama was born in Chicago, Illinois, to Japanese parents. He was raised in California and received his BA from Cornell University and his PhD from Harvard University. He has been a professor at a number of institutions, including the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University, George Mason University, and Stanford University. He is currently a Senior Fellow at the Center on Democracy, Development, and the Rule of Law at Stanford University.
