There is no set series of work that will be written, but I hope to continue writing about my experiences as a queer woman of color in the United States. I hope to continue to explore the intersections of my identities and how they shape my experiences. I also hope to continue to write about the political and social issues that are important to me.
The Marriage of Opposites tells the story of Rachel, a young girl living on the island of St. Thomas in the early 1800s. Rachel’s mother dies when she is just a child, and her father, who is a wealthy businessman, remarries a much younger woman. Rachel is resentful of her stepmother and often feels like she is living in her shadow. When Rachel turns eighteen, her father arranges for her to marry a man she does not love in order to keep her from running off with her true love, a poor fisherman named Jules. Rachel goes through with the marriage, but she is miserable. She soon begins an affair with Jules, and the two of them have a child together. Rachel’s husband finds out about the affair and demands that she leave Jules and come back to him. Rachel refuses, and she and Jules are forced to flee to the United States. The Marriage of Opposites is a sweeping historical novel that tells the story of one woman’s search for love and happiness.
If you are looking for a good book to read, I recommend The Marriage of Opposites by Alice Hoffman. This book tells the story of a forbidden love between a mother and her son’s tutor. The story is set on the island of St. Thomas in the 1800s. The book is a great read and I think you will enjoy it.
