The Peter Giles of the The Law of Innocence is a criminal defense attorney who specializes in helping people who have been wrongfully accused of crimes. He is a former public defender who now works for a private law firm.
The Law of Innocence is a legal thriller written by Michael Connelly.
In the Law of Innocence, defense attorney Mickey Haller is hired to defend a wealthy man accused of murder. The man, Blake Randolph, is an egotistical playboy who is used to getting what he wants. Haller is not sure he can trust his client, but he needs the money, so he takes the case.
The trial is a media circus, and Randolph is more interested in playing to the cameras than in winning his case. Haller does his best to keep him focused, but it is a difficult task. The prosecutor is a ruthless opponent, and the evidence against Randolph is overwhelming.
In the end, Haller is able to find a few holes in the prosecution’s case, and he is able to get Randolph acquitted. However, the experience leaves him shaken, and he is not sure he wants to continue working as a defense attorney.
