Sophie Hannah is a British crime writer and poet. She is the author of seven psychological thrillers, including The Carrier, The Wrong Mother, and The Dead Lie Down, as well as a collection of poetry, A Moment’s Madness.

Hannah was born in 1971 in Manchester, England, and studied English Literature at Newnham College, Cambridge. After graduation, she worked as a journalist for The Independent and The Daily Telegraph. She has also taught creative writing at the University of York and the Open University.

Hannah’s debut novel, Little Face, was published in 2007 and was an instant bestseller. Her second novel, The Carrier, was published in 2008 and won the Yorkshire Post Best First Novel Award.

Hannah’s novels have been translated into over 20 languages and have sold millions of copies worldwide. In 2012, her novel The Cradle in the Grave was adapted into a four-part television series for ITV, starring Sarah Lancashire and Toby Stephens.
