That Hideous Strength

Geoffrey Howard is a character in the novel That Hideous Strength by C.S. Lewis. He is a young professor at the fictional Bracton College, and is married to Jane. He becomes involved with the National Institute for Co-ordinated Experiments (NICE), a government organisation that is secretly controlled by the evil spirits of the world.

Howard is initially attracted to NICE because of its scientific work, but he soon discovers that the organisation is evil. He tries to warn his wife, but she does not believe him. Eventually, Howard is forced to face the evil head-on, and he is killed in the battle.

That Hideous Strength is the third and final book in C. S. Lewis’s science fiction trilogy, known collectively as the Space Trilogy.

Ransom is a Cambridge academic who is offered a position at the National Institute for Co-ordinated Experiments, or N.I.C.E. He initially refuses, but after his wife is kidnapped, he accepts. He soon realizes that the N.I.C.E. is a front for a group of evil scientists who are trying to take over the world. With the help of his friends, Ransom is able to stop the N.I.C.E. and rescue his wife.
