Timothy Zahn is an American science fiction author best known for his Star Wars novels. He has written more than fifty novels, including the Thrawn trilogy, and his work has been translated into over thirty languages. Zahn is a graduate of Michigan State University and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

The Heir to the Empire series is a trilogy of novels set in the Star Wars expanded universe. The series was written by Timothy Zahn and published by Bantam Spectra. The novels were released from 1991-1993.

The series follows the events after the Return of the Jedi, as the Rebel Alliance tries to establish a new government, the Galactic Empire regroups, and a new threat, the Yuuzhan Vong, invades the galaxy.
