Matthew Stover is a best-selling author known for his work in the fantasy and science fiction genres. He is best known for his work on the Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith novelization and the Shannara novels. Stover was born in 1963 in Belleville, Illinois. He attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. He then attended the University of Colorado at Boulder, where he received a Master of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing. Stover began his career writing short stories, which were published in various magazines. He made his debut as a novelist with Heroes Die, which was published in 1998. The novel was well-received and led to Stover being tapped to write the novelization of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, which was released in 2005. He has since published a number of other novels, including the Shannara novels, and his work has been translated into a number of languages.

The Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith was written when George Lucas decided that he wanted to make a third trilogy of Star Wars movies.
