Gregory David Roberts is an Australian writer and former convict. He is best known for his novel, Shantaram.

Roberts was born in 1952 in Melbourne, Australia. He was raised in a working-class family and had a difficult childhood. He dropped out of school at the age of 15 and became involved in a life of crime. He was arrested and sentenced to 19 years in prison in 1974.

While in prison, Roberts educated himself and became a model prisoner. He was released on parole in 1980 and fled Australia soon afterwards. He travelled to India and lived there for 10 years, working as a heroin addict and smuggling drugs.

Roberts eventually returned to Australia and wrote Shantaram, based on his experiences in India. The novel was published in 2003 and became an international bestseller. It has been made into a film and a television series.

Roberts now lives in Spain with his wife and two children.

I am planning to write a series of articles discussing the various aspects of starting and running a small business. I will cover topics such as choosing the right business structure, obtaining financing, marketing your business, and managing your finances. I will also offer tips and advice based on my own experience as a small business owner. I hope that by sharing my knowledge, I can help others achieve their dreams of entrepreneurship.

Shantaram is a 2003 novel by Gregory David Roberts, in which a convicted Australian bank robber and heroin addict who escaped from Pentridge Prison flees to India.

In the late 1970s, Roberts was sentenced to 19 years’ imprisonment for armed robbery. He escaped from Pentridge Prison in 1980 and fled to India, where he lived for 10 years.

Roberts’ novel is based on his own experiences in India, and follows the story of Lin, a fugitive who becomes involved in the Mumbai underworld.

The novel was adapted into a film of the same name in 2009, directed by Mira Nair and starring Johnny Depp as Lin.
