The book is set in 1950s Mexico and tells the story of Noemí Taboada, a young woman who is sent to live with her father’s distant relative, Catalina Creel, in a remote town called High Place. Noemí is immediately unsettled by the eerie atmosphere of the house and the strange behavior of the people in the town. As she tries to uncover the secrets of High Place, Noemí finds herself in increasing danger.
Some special characters of Mexican Gothic include the following:
-The House: A gothic, old, and imposing mansion that is described as being in a state of disrepair.
-The House’s inhabitants: A family of strange and eerie individuals who seem to be hiding something.
-The narrator: A young woman who is drawn to the House and its inhabitants despite her better judgment.
-The setting: A remote and isolated village in Mexico that has a dark and foreboding atmosphere.
I think it’s a great book! It’s got a unique premise and I love the way the author weaves together the different elements of the story.
