Let Love Have the Last Word

The Common, also known as Lonnie Rashid Lynn, is an American rapper, actor, and producer. He began his career as a member of the rap group C.D.R. and co-founder of the underground hip hop collective Soulquarians. He later released his debut solo album, Can I Borrow a Dollar?, in 1992. His work includes the albums Like Water for Chocolate (2000) and Finding Forever (2007), as well as the theme song for the television series Being Mary Jane. In 2014, he starred in the Spike Lee film Da Sweet Blood of Jesus.

There is no set series of work that will be written for this residency; however, I hope to produce a body of work that explores the idea of home and belonging. This might take the form of poems, stories, or even a memoir. Whatever the form, I hope to produce work that is honest and vulnerable, and that speaks to the experiences of those who feel like they are constantly searching for a place to call home.

Let Love Have the Last Word is the title of a book by media executive and producer, Mona Scott-Young. The book chronicles Scott-Young’s life and career, as well as her experiences as a black woman in America.

Scott-Young provides readers with an intimate look at her upbringing in the Bronx, her journey to becoming a successful media mogul, and the challenges she’s faced along the way. She also offers advice for other black women who are striving to achieve their dreams.
