Bruce Campbell is best known for his role as Ash Williams in the Evil Dead franchise. He has also starred in numerous other films and television shows, including Burn Notice, Jack of all Trades, and The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr.
Born in Royal Oak, Michigan, on June 22, 1958, Campbell was the only child of Joanne Louise (Pickett) and Charles Newton Campbell. His father was a traveling salesman and his mother was a former art teacher. Growing up, Campbell was a self-described “geek.” He was fascinated by horror movies and comic books, and he loved to play Dungeons & Dragons with his friends.
After graduating from high school in 1976, Campbell attended Western Michigan University. He originally planned to study pre-law, but he eventually switched his major to acting. He appeared in several student films and theater productions while in college.
In 1978, Campbell moved to Los Angeles to pursue his dream of becoming a professional actor. He struggled to find work at first, but he eventually landed small roles in films like The Evil Dead (1981) and Christine (1983). He also had a recurring role on the television series Kung Fu: The Legend Continues (1993-1997).
