Frankenstein: Prodigal Son is part of the Frankenstein series by Dean Koontz.
In Frankenstein: Prodigal Son, Victor Frankenstein returns to his homeland of Geneva after many years away. He is met with mixed reactions from the people he once knew. Some are scared of him, thinking he is a monster, while others are curious about his work.
Frankenstein tells the people of Geneva about his work, and how he created a creature from the dead. The creature, however, is not what Frankenstein expected. It is ugly and deformed, and Frankenstein is disgusted by it.
The creature, however, is intelligent and soon begins to speak. It tells Frankenstein that it is not a monster, but a prodigal son. It begs Frankenstein to create a mate for it, so that it will not be alone in the world.
Frankenstein agrees to the creature’s request, and sets to work. He creates a beautiful creature, which the creature is overjoyed with. However, when Frankenstein tries to destroy the creature’s mate, the creature turns on him.
It is only then that Frankenstein realizes that the creature is not a prodigal son, but a monster.
