Deceptions

The Tim Gerard Reynolds of the Deceptions is a novel by American author Sara Shepard. The book was published on June 4, 2013 by HarperCollins and is the fifth installment in The Lying Game series.

In the story, “Deceptions”, the protagonist, Emily, is a young woman who has been recently widowed. She is struggling to cope with her loss and is feeling very isolated. One day, she receives a phone call from a man who claims to be her husband’s friend. He tells her that her husband had been killed in a car accident and that he was calling to offer his condolences. Emily is shocked and devastated by the news. She asks the man how he knows her husband and he tells her that they were friends from work. He also tells her that her husband had told him about her and that he was sorry for her loss. Emily is overcome with grief and hangs up the phone. The man then calls back and tells her that he was just joking and that her husband is actually alive and well. Emily is relieved and happy to hear this news.
