Hugh Fraser was born in London in 1930, the son of the actor, Hugh Fraser, and his American wife, the actress, Angela Baddeley. He was educated at Eton and at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art.

Fraser’s first appearance on the stage was in his father’s production of The Importance of Being Earnest at the Theatre Royal, Bath, in 1945. He has since appeared in many stage productions, including The Wind and the Willows, The Rivals and The Cherry Orchard.

In addition to his stage work, Fraser has appeared in a number of television programmes and films, including the Inspector Morse episode, The Wench is Dead, and the Agatha Christie adaptation, Ordeal by Innocence.

Fraser is perhaps best known for his role as Captain Hastings in the television series, Agatha Christie’s Poirot. He has appeared in all fifty-three episodes of the series, which began in 1989.
