The book won the Newbery Medal, Sequoyah Book Award, and Lewis Carroll Shelf Award, and was runner-up for the Hans Christian Andersen Award. It has been translated into more than 40 languages.
L’Engle was born in 1918 in New York City. She graduated from Smith College in 1941 and later worked as an advertising executive and journalist. She wrote her first book, The Small Rain, while working as a librarian in New York. A Wrinkle in Time was her second novel.
L’Engle died in 2007 at the age of 89.
