Philip Rucker is a Washington Post reporter and the co-author, with Carol Leonnig, of the new book, “A Very Stable Genius: Donald J. Trump’s Testing of America.”
Rucker has been a national political reporter at The Washington Post since 2005. He has covered the past three presidential campaigns and reported on the administrations of George W. Bush, Barack Obama and Donald Trump.
Rucker is a two-time winner of the Pulitzer Prize, most recently as part of the Post team that covered Russia’s interference in the 2016 election. He also won the George Polk Award for political reporting.
Rucker was born in Miami and raised in South Florida. He is a graduate of Harvard College and the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
There is no set series of work that will be written for this course. However, students may be asked to write papers discussing the readings, lectures, and films. In addition, students may be asked to write a research paper on a topic of their choice.
A Very Stable Genius is a book by Dr. David Lewis about the life and work of Dr. William Shockley. Shockley was a Nobel Prize-winning physicist who is best known for his work on the transistor. He was also a controversial figure, known for his views on race and intelligence. The book is a biography of Shockley, told through the eyes of those who knew him best. It is a fascinating look at a brilliant and complex man.
