William H. McRaven is a retired United States Navy four-star admiral who last served as the ninth commander of the United States Special Operations Command from August 8, 2011, to August 28, 2014. He is now the chancellor of The University of Texas System.
Admiral McRaven is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy and has served in a variety of command and leadership positions during his thirty-seven-year career in the Navy. He is best known for his role in planning and overseeing the raid that killed Osama bin Laden in 2011.
