The Deep Blue Good-By belongs to the Travis McGee series. John D. MacDonald is the author of the series.
In the novel, the protagonist, Travis McGee, is a self-described beach bum who lives on a houseboat in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He makes a living as a salvage consultant, recovering sunken treasure for a percentage of the haul. In the course of his work, he often comes into contact with shady characters and dangerous situations.
In this particular novel, Travis is hired by a woman named Dolores to find her missing husband, who has disappeared with a valuable piece of jewelry. Travis’s investigation leads him to a group of criminals who are involved in a smuggling operation. Travis’s efforts to find the missing man and return the jewelry to Dolores put him in danger, but he ultimately triumphs.
