In the novel, Lestat, a vampire who has been alive for over two centuries, becomes aware of the existence of the powerful vampire queen Akasha. Lestat is drawn to her and becomes obsessed with her, eventually leading him to travel to Egypt to find her. There, he discovers that she is planning to create a new race of vampires and enslave humanity. Lestat must decide whether to join her or fight her, knowing that either choice could lead to his death.
