Cornelia Funke is a German author of children’s books. She is best known for her Inkheart trilogy.
Funke was born in Dorsten, North Rhine-Westphalia. She began her career as a social worker, but after the publication of her first book, The Thief Lord, she became a full-time writer.
Funke’s books have been translated into 37 languages and have sold more than 10 million copies worldwide. In 2007, she was ranked as the second most-translated German author, after J. K. Rowling.
Funke has said that her favorite book as a child was The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien. She has also cited C. S. Lewis’s The Chronicles of Narnia, Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and E. B. White’s Charlotte’s Web as being among her favorite books.
