There is nothing particularly special about the characters in The Madness of Crowds. The book is a collection of essays and as such, does not have any traditional characters.
In a 2016 speech at the Heritage Foundation, Murray urged conservatives to embrace the “new European right”—a reference to the nationalist parties sweeping across the continent.
“The rise of the European right is something to celebrate,” he said.
Murray has been a harsh critic of Islam and Muslim immigration, and in his book The Strange Death of Europe he argues that the continent is in the midst of an “invasion” by Muslims.
He has also been a vocal critic of the LGBTQ rights movement, and in a 2018 column for The Spectator he derided the “ transgender moment” as a “ mass delusion.”
I want to thank Douglas Murray for his book the Strange Death of Europe. I have been searching for an articulate, reasonable and well-reasoned argument to explain Europe’s current problems for some time now. Douglas Murray is a brave and clear-sighted commentator and I can only praise him for his excellent analysis of the situation.
I have also read and heard him speak on numerous occasions and I believe that he is a man of integrity who is not afraid to speak his mind, even when it might be unpopular. Europe is in a very dark place at the moment, and I believe that Douglas Murray is one of the few voices that is willing to speak out and tell the truth about what is happening.
I would urge everyone to read his book and to listen to him speak. He is a man who is not afraid to tell the truth and we need more people like him in Europe at the moment.
The Madness of Crowds was an incredible success. It spent weeks on the New York Times bestseller list, was translated into multiple languages, and was praised by critics around the world. The book has been credited with helping to start a conversation about the dangers of mob mentality and the importance of reason and critical thinking.
