Ken Follett is a Welsh author of thrillers and historical novels who has sold more than 160 million copies of his works. He is particularly known for his bestselling book, The Pillars of the Earth.
Follett was born in Cardiff, Wales, in 1949. He attended the local grammar school and then went on to study at the University of London. He began his career as a journalist, working for a variety of newspapers including The Times, the Daily Telegraph, and the London Evening Standard. He also wrote for television and radio.
Follett’s first novel, Eye of the Needle, was published in 1978 and was an instant bestseller. It was followed by a sequel, The Key to Rebecca, in 1980. Follett then turned his attention to the historical novel with The Pillars of the Earth, which was published in 1989. The novel was an enormous success and was followed by a sequel, World Without End, in 2007.
Follett has also written a number of non-fiction books, including On Wings of Eagles, a true story about two American businessmen who were imprisoned in Iran during the Iranian Revolution, and The Modigliani Scandal, a true story about art fraud.
