William Landay is an American author of legal thrillers. His debut novel, Mission Flats, was a finalist for the Edgar Award for Best First Novel. His second novel, The Strangler, won the Massachusetts Book Award in the Mystery/Suspense category. His third novel, Defending Jacob, was a New York Times bestseller and was adapted into a limited series for Apple TV+.

Landay was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and raised in Newton, Massachusetts. He graduated from Yale University and Boston College Law School. He lives in Boston with his wife and two children.
