George R.R. Martin is best known for his series of fantasy novels, A Song of Ice and Fire, which was adapted into the HBO series Game of Thrones.

Martin was born September 20, 1948, in Bayonne, New Jersey. He began writing fantasy stories at a young age, and sold his first professional story, “The Hero,” in 1971. He went on to write science fiction and horror stories for a variety of publications.

In 1996, Martin began work on A Song of Ice and Fire, which he intended to be a trilogy. The first book, A Game of Thrones, was published in 1996, and the second book, A Clash of Kings, was published in 1999. The third book, A Storm of Swords, was published in 2000. The fourth book, A Feast for Crows, was published in 2005, and the fifth book, A Dance with Dragons, was published in 2011. The sixth book, The Winds of Winter, is yet to be published.

Martin has also written several other books, including the novels Tuf Voyaging and Fevre Dream, and the collections A Song of Ice and Fire: Volume One, A Song of Ice and Fire: Volume Two, and Dreamsongs: Volume
