Jean M. Auel is an American writer best known for her work The Clan of the Cave Bear, the first book in her Earth’s Children series. She has sold more than 34 million copies of her books worldwide, and her work has been translated into 26 languages.
Auel was born in Chicago, Illinois, in 1936, and grew up in the suburbs. She began writing when she was just six years old, and sold her first story when she was sixteen. After high school, she attended business college and then worked as a secretary. In 1960, she married Ray Auel, and the couple had two children.
In 1977, Auel’s first novel, The Clan of the Cave Bear, was published. It was an instant success, and was followed by five more books in the Earth’s Children series. Auel’s novels are known for their detailed and realistic portrayals of prehistoric life, and her work has been praised by both scientists and literary critics.
Auel continues to write, and her latest novel, The Land of Painted Caves, was published in 2011. She currently lives in Idaho with her husband.
This series will explore the role of the artist in society, and how art can be used to effect change. I will be interviewing a variety of artists, from painters to sculptors to performance artists, to gain a better understanding of their motivations and methods. I will also be attending various art events and observing how art is used in the public sphere. I hope to gain a better understanding of how art can be used to create positive change in society, and to learn from the artists who are already doing this work.
The Valley of Horses is the second book in the Earth’s Children series by Jean M. Auel. The book follows the story of Ayla, a young woman of the Cro-Magnon race who was orphaned and raised by the Neanderthal Clan. The book picks up shortly after the events of the first book, The Clan of the Cave Bear.
Ayla has been living with the Neanderthals for several years, and has become a skilled hunter and medicine woman. However, she is still an outsider, and longs for her own people. When she meets Jondalar, a man of the Zelandonii tribe, she finally feels like she has found a place to belong.
Jondalar introduces her to the Zelandonii, and Ayla quickly assimilates into the tribe. However, the Zelandonii are a nomadic people, and when they decide to move to a new location, Ayla is forced to leave the valley she has come to love.
