When Melisande Stokes, an expert in linguistics and dead languages, finds an ancient book in a long-forgotten library, the language within it is incomprehensible to her. But the character Melisande is as compelling as the language is mysterious, and she sets out to use her unique skills to discover how to read the book.

At the same time, Melisande meets Ned Henry, an expert in time travel and chronology, who tells her his employer, the government, needs her help. It turns out that a few members of the government know about time travel, and they want Melisande to help them stop time travelers from destroying the world as we know it.

This is one of those books that has everything. Time travel, alternate history, cryptography, a conspiracy, a mystery, romance, and even a little bit of magic.

The characters are great, the plot is full of twists and turns and surprises, and the worldbuilding is unparallelled. This book is one of those rare gems that is impossible to put down.
